Construction work on a metro line linking the new Western Sydney airport and St Marys railway station will be brought forward, following a $5.25 billion injection from the Federal Government announced this week.

Prime minister Scott Morrison, along with NSW premier Gladys Berejiklian and NSW transport minister Andrew Constance, said the project would be fast-tracked and serve as an important initiative for job creation following the economic downturn.

14,000 jobs will be created in the process. This is a massive job creating project for Western Sydney as Minister for Cities and Urban Infrastructure Alan Tudge says almost 14,00 jobs will be created in the process.

The project is expected to include a total of six metro stations, two of which will be within the airport's boundaries, one station serving the commercial heart of the Western Sydney Aerotropolis; a station at St Marys, interchanging with the existing suburban railway station and connecting customers with the rest of Sydney’s rail system; one at Orchard Hills; and another at Luddenham to service a future education, innovation and commercial precinct.

Alex Scott, our Team Leader for Engineering & Rail shares his thoughts on the new investment…

“Infrastructure projects have been the driving force behind the NSW economy for a number of years so it is great to see this major project being fast tracked as not only does it serve the community by providing jobs but it improves the states travel and improves Western Sydney’s transport links. With the line including a number of stations the knock effect to those areas is also going to be great, major cities across the world use value capture from rail projects to assist in the development of those areas and that can only benefit Western Sydney communities.”
