At the end of each financial year, Design & Build like to come together to celebrate our wins as a team, but also to recognise the outstanding achievements of our team members. A great example of this is our Melbourne consultant for residential construction Lauren Rogers, who took out BOTH the Consultant’s Consultant and Director’s Choice awards this year.
The Consultant’s Consultant award is voted on by each member of the Design and Build team for the person they feel has gone above and beyond in their role, whether it be starting a new desk, providing support and guidance to others and living the Design & Build values. The Director’s Choice award is decided on by the managing directors of Design & Build and is awarded to the team member who they’ve felt has stood out in their commitment and dedication to their team, clients, candidates and the overall company.
“It really came as no surprise to me that Lauren took out the double win as she is respected by all our team members in Melbourne and Sydney. In what can only be described as one of our more challenging years in Melbourne, Lauren has delivered every quarter and set the standard for new team members along with receiving outstanding feedback from clients, candidates and colleagues alike.” - Andy McGregor, Design & Build Managing Director
We caught up with Lauren to find out what this achievement means for her…
What motivates you?
Matching a candidate to a role they’re genuinely excited about and delivering the good news that they’ve got the job never gets old. I’ve found this more rewarding than ever during COVID-19, being able to help out some great individuals who have found themselves out of work through no fault of their own. I’m motivated to build long-lasting relationships with both clients and candidates. Rather than be known for having a transactional approach, I want to be considered as a valuable partner to their business and for candidates a consultant who will always work in their best interests with an honest and supportive approach.
What does career success look like to you?
My goal is to be the go-to consultant for residential construction candidates and clients in Melbourne. There’s nothing better than when a client comes back to you time and time again to fill their vacancies or when candidates refer their friends to you, as it shows you’ve genuinely built trust with them throughout the process.
What does winning this award mean to you?
Winning both of these awards was definitely a surprise but also a huge compliment. When you’re recognised not just by your managers, but your colleagues as well – it’s a great feeling! During what’s been one of the toughest years, I’m glad I could contribute not just to the company’s success but also the team culture.
What has been a highlight for the last financial year and what are your goals heading into next year?
Winning the Recruiter Insider award for best Client Experience and these awards were definitely highlights. The Xmas Party 2019 was also a highlight looking back – celebrations over Zoom just aren’t the same! Over the next year, I hope to continue establishing myself as the go-to consultant in the residential construction market, as well as growing the team and hopefully no longer working from my spare bedroom.
