Blair will be focusing on maintaining Design & Build’s strong client and candidate networks within Victoria, as well as leading the growth and development of our brand in both the South Australian and Western Australian region. Blair brings with him a wealth of experience, having worked within multi-disciplinary recruitment both in Australia and internationally for over 16 years. What was it that attracted you to join Design & Build?

You’ve had a lot of experience recruiting in the Engineering, Manufacturing and Infrastructure sectors. What first drew you to these particular areas and what opportunities do you think they can hold for Design & Build moving forward?
I was drawn to these sectors as they have such a great impact on the cities we live in and their landscapes. I love that we get to play a role in city shaping civil infrastructure & building projects. The opportunities for Design & Build are wide reaching. In the short term our focus is of course, to continue to deliver to our long-term clients. In the medium term we will be enhancing our client network in underdeveloped but essential areas of the engineering and infrastructure space Australia wide.
As State Manager, you’ll be looking after recruitment in WA, SA and VIC. What are you hoping to achieve/focus on when developing these regions?
I’m fortunate that the role I have to play locally is to continue to build upon an already strong brand. Work with our long-term clients and candidates to deliver against their requirements. We will also be focused on developing and growing our team to keep up with the needs of new clients as we establish ourselves in new sectors. With regards to SA & WA we will initially be focussing on supporting current clients with projects in these states by growing our candidate networks. In time I would certainly like to see a physical Design & Build presence in South Australia & Western Australia.
What would you say is your proudest accomplishment?
My family. The benefit of working at home for 6 months has undoubtedly been spending time with my 1-year old daughter, 3-year-old son and watching my wife take whatever the day throws at her in her stride. Truly awe inspiring given the scale of destruction two young children can cause when your back is turned for 30 seconds!
What is your biggest fear?
Heights, almost all Australian animals and Tottenham Hotspur not winning the premier league in my lifetime.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Noosa. If I had to leave Melbourne of course.
What motivates you to work hard?
My family & professional pride and development.
