Meet Edward, the newest addition to our Melbourne team who will be focusing on recruiting for Contact Construction roles. When not recruiting, Edward plays rugby union, practises his surfing skills and has been known to cross the road specifically to pat passing dogs.
We caught up with Ed to find out a little more about him and why he chose to join the Design & Build team…
What was it that attracted you to join Design & Build?
From my initial meetings with Blair, Ian and Andy, I knew that Design and Build were the right fit for me. In choosing my next move, I was looking for career progression through upskilling by working with the best recruiters in the industry. I believe that working within a team that promotes learning and development, shares ideas, enjoys working together and celebrates success together will create the right culture for continued success. Working with D&B also would allow me to work with clients in the Tier 1-3 space which I’ve been wanting to develop into since starting my recruitment pathway. In my eyes, What set D&B apart from other recruitment companies was their goals to do right by both their clients and candidates and to reward recruiters who do the right thing, rather than making quick wins.
What does Building Trust mean to you?
Building trust is the foundation of our industry, it is also reciprocal. In the candidate space, your candidate needs to know that you are doing right by them for their best interests, so that when it comes to job offers, your candidate will trust in your abilities to get the best offers on the table for them, and will listen to your knowledge of the industry to make an informed decision. After all, this is their career!
Building trust with clients is just as important, I believe that going the extra mile is the best way to gain and maintain trust in a client relationship. The extra mile’’ is adding value to where other recruiters may not – this could be anything from industry knowledge, candidate knowledge and being able to do what you say you can do. So when it comes to a high pressure or hard to find position, they know that you will source the best for them and will trust in your guidance so that they can take the stress out of making important hiring decisions.
If you go the extra mile and make sure you do right by your candidates and clients, your reputation as a great recruiter will speak for itself
What first drew you to recruitment- and even recruiting in construction?
I initially started in recruitment in Australia after working in business development in the UK. What attracted me to the construction industry is that I had just finished a year of working on site in the industry and I wanted to continue my onsite experience in Australia and my business development experience back home. It was a logical progression and a great fit
What do you hope to bring to the team and your new role?
I am quick learner, and I’m looking forward to upskilling from recruiters who are strongly established within the industry. I am used to a fast paced environment and thrive under pressure – working in recruitment in trades and labour will do that to you! I believe my past experience in candidate management, client management and desire to be the best I can be will make me succeed in the team at Design & Build.
What is your biggest fear?
Throw me out of a plane, let me absail down a cliff but do not put me on a bridge. Doesn’t even have to be high or made of rope. Can’t stand them!
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Torquay! (maybe in the future!)
What motivates you to work hard?
Being successful in work means that I can travel more, enjoy good food and events and visit family more and share the experiences with family and friends– What more would you need to keep yourself focussed and motivated!
