Design & Build is excited to welcome our newest addition to the Melbourne Construction team, Joe Thorpe! In addition to being a keen Manchester United fan, Joe has had extensive recruiting experience both in Australia and the UK and will be focusing on senior civil positions within the construction sector.
During his first week, we wanted to find out a little bit more about Joe, what attracted him to Design & Build and what he hopes to bring to the team. Read his answers below:
What was it that attracted you to Design & Build?
I was looking for a company that strongly values training, development, and career progression. I had previously recruited in the blue-collar construction space and D&B offered me the opportunity to continue working within the construction space, but recruiting for white-collar roles. It also helps that D&B have an excellent reputation in the market!
What does Building Trust mean to you?
To me, Building Trust means developing strong relationships and bonds with candidates and clients through honesty, transparency, and knowledge of the market. By following these principles, and providing a quality service that’s expected of us, we’re well on our way to becoming a trusted brand!
What first drew you to recruitment- and what are you excited about when recruiting within the Civil Construction space?
I’d like to say I grew up as a child with top billers are my idols, but as with many others, I seemed to stumble across recruitment straight out of university. Since then, I’ve enjoyed recruitment due to its fast pace and unpredictability from day-to-day! Working in Melbourne rather than sunny Manchester is also a bonus. I’m excited to work within the Civil Construction space as there’s so much scope to work in- whether that be road, bridges or subdivisions!
What do you hope to bring to the team and your new role?
Hopefully some knowledge and experience from trades, as well as an honest and positive approach.
What motivates you to work hard?
The drive to succeed to the best of my abilities.
What is your biggest fear?
Growing old. 18 feels like yesterday.
If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Melbourne with a few months in Barbados & Manchester.
Once again, welcome to the team Joe- we are excited to have you onboard and can’t wait to see what you achieve! If you would like to find out more about the civil construction roles Joe will be working on, you can contact him on:
