A big congratulations to one of our Sydney residential construction consultants Ross Breen, who was promoted to Lead Consultant last week! Since joining in 2017, Ross Breen has been an integral part of the Design & Build team. As one of the first consultants to focus on architecturally designed luxury and high- end homes, Ross has been a driving force in building Design & Build's reputation within this space, and thanks to his dedication in always doing the right thing by his candidates and clients, he has built a loyal network, who repeatedly choose to work with him when seeking to either apply or fill new roles. We caught up with Ross this week, to find out more about what this promotion means to him, what his new role will entail and the exciting new opportunities he'll be working on as a lead consultant:
How did you first get involved in recruitment?
I was working as a community football coach which I really enjoyed, but it wasn't going to be enough to support me long-term. My mum cut out an advertisement from the local paper which was for a recruitment agency. I believe the advertisement said my year 2 take-home salary would be £100,000 (that definitely didn’t happen).
What brought you to Design & Build?
I had been in Australia a few years working within IT recruitment and my housemate at the time Adam, was a team leader at Design & Build. He suggested I should interview with Andy, Tom and Kelly as I wanted to change into a different sector. I liked that the business had a vision and a goal to be the most trusted recruitment agency. I believe in treating everyone fairly and that when meeting with the directors, I could see our morals aligned.
What is your favourite part of your job?
That might sound like a good old cheesy recruitment line but there is nothing better than helping your candidates get their dream job!
What has been your proudest achievement since working at Design & Build?
I was awarded 'Best Newcomer' in my first year. 2017/2018 had been a difficult year for me (personally) but receiving that award at the Design & Build end of financial year conference was definitely the highlight!
What does being a Lead Consultant mean to you?
Being a Lead Consultant means that I'll have the ability to spend more time with new team members or associate consultants new to the world of recruitment. I can help them to develop and progress their knowledge and skillset while at Design & Build and hopefully help them to reach a similar position to where I am now.
Can you provide a little more information on what you'll be focusing on in your new role?
I hope to remain focused on high-end residential projects as that's where my passion is, as well as working with and guiding an associate consultant to help build and grow the residential construction team.
Do you have any exciting roles you're currently working on?
I have a few opportunities I'm working on currently, but a particular role I'm focusing on at the moment is below:
