Off the back of the last week’s exciting promotion news, we are excited to announce that another of our Sydney engineering team - surveying superstar recruiter Sophie Mayne- has been promoted to Senior Consultant! Since joining the Design & Build Sydney office in 2018, Sophie – or #surveyorsoph as she’s know in the office – has successfully carved out a space within the surveying job market and has a number of loyal candidates and clients alike who will repeatedly look to her when working on roles within surveying. To celebrate this incredible achievement, we asked Sophie a few questions surrounding her recent promotion; what does this promotion signify, what are her goals moving forward and the exciting new roles she is working on at the moment. See her answers below:
Congratulations again, Sophie!
How Did You First Get Involved in Recruitment?
I had a background in sales and have always worked in very people-centred roles... and I basically needed to get a job that would quickly pay for a flight back to Australia.
What brought you to Design & Build?
I liked the idea of moving away from medical and into construction recruitment and the team at D&B were welcoming and seemed like a good group (which thankfully they turned out to be)!
What is your favourite part of your job?
Making long term relationships with key clients and candidates and hearing about their company and career successes. Also, I have a really good team and can’t complain about the odd boozy lunch.
What does becoming a senior consultant mean to you?
It’s always nice to receive recognition for the work you put into your role with helping both your clients and candidates and also your colleagues!
“Sophie’s consistent performance and persistent determination on what can be a very testing market is a real reflection on her and what she brings to work every day, you can see Soph cares about her work and her candidates and clients. Sophie deserves a huge amount of credit for establishing herself as the number 1 recruiter across surveyors for NSW and QLD!”
Alex Scott, Engineering Division Manager
As a senior consultant what key roles/areas will you be focusing on?
To consolidate myself as the go-to specialist within surveying and to continue partnering with ambitious companies who are working on some of the biggest projects in Australia. The surveying industry is also changing quickly so it’s important to stay on top of the latest trends and software- I’m particularly interested in digital engineering and how it is being used in surveying.
As a senior consultant, what are your goals for the rest of 2021
To continue supporting my clients and candidates with their recruitment needs and pushing myself to exceed previous targets and goals. I also want to save up for a massive holiday once borders are back open!
Do you have any exciting roles you’re currently working on?
There are too many to list here, some of my favourite clients have gone from strength to strength over the last few years and some of their companies have doubled in size so there is a lot happening.
I’m really looking for experienced Engineering Surveyors to work on large civil infrastructure projects across NSW and QLD.
