For those that haven’t already, meet one of the dedicated members of our Sydney Engineering team, Luke Thompson. In addition to being a valued member of the Sydney Design & Build team and the go-to consultant for many of our client’s mechanical and electrical needs, Luke has just been promoted to senior consultant!
To celebrate this achievement, we spoke to Luke about his recent promotion, what it means to him, his goals for the rest of 2021 and the exciting opportunities he is currently working on. Find out what he said by reading his answers below:
How Did You First Get Involved In Recruitment?
When I arrived in Sydney- fresh from spending 3 months in the middle of nowhere picking avocado’s- I had an interview for a business-to-business sales role. The recruiter I met with ended up referring me internally rather than putting me forward for the job I applied for!
What brought you to D&B?
A director at Design & Build was one of my old clients from back in the U.K. After I decided to move on from my first recruitment role, he put me in touch with Andy & Kelly in Sydney. Their vision for the agency and dedication to their people (clients, candidates, the rest of the D&B team) really resonated with me and 3 years later, here I am!
What’s your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my role would be the business development side. I like the process of winning work with new clients. Plus, I work with a great team of people which makes it easier to come into work each day!
What does becoming a senior consultant mean to you?
I’m very happy with the promotion. It’s great to get recognition for doing the right thing by my clients & candidates.
"During his almost 4 years on the Engineering Team at Design & Build, Luke ‘Marra’ Thompson has been able to establish himself as the go-to consultant for electrical contractors across the built environment sectors in Sydney! Luke’s opened doors to many new clients but also leads the way in placing people from candidate referrals which is a testament to the level of trust he’s built with his clients and candidates!
Great on the phone, Luke’s forever a source of entertainment for the team and the dedication he shows to all his clients, the candidates he’s working with and his colleagues, is something to be admired.
Congrats on your promotion mate, very well-deserved !!"
