This week, we are delighted to welcome back a familiar face to the Design & Build team – Ian Bond! Ian first started at Design & Build as a HSEQ consultant in our Melbourne office and now will be rejoining the company as lead consultant for the residential construction space...in our brand new Perth office! Perth has experienced significant growth within the last few years, especially within the residential construction industry, and Design & Build are excited to establish itself within a market critical to Australia's economy. We can't wait to see the opportunities that unfold with our latest expansion, especially with Ian at the helm!
This week we caught up with Ian, to find out a little bit more about his return to Design & Build, his new role and what the future has in store for the Design & Build Perth office. Read his answers below:
Can you tell us a little bit more about your new role and the key things you’ll be working on?
I am Lead Recruitment consultant for our new Perth office, focusing on establishing the Design & Build brand within our key disciplines in Western Australia, with a personal focus on the Residential Construction space.
This isn’t the first time you’ve worked with Design & Build. What was it about the company & role that brought you back?
After relocating from Victoria to Western Australia last year I was given the opportunity to re-join and help establish the Perth office. The people, the company reputation and the company values are what drew me back; Design & Build is truly a great place to work.
Previously you were working in our Melbourne office, but now you’ll be working in Design & Build’s brand new Perth office. Why is Perth such an important base – especially within residential construction?
As a state, WA has seen huge growth in the economy and also the residential market, with thousands of people relocating from across the country. Design & Build are a market leader in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland and the business felt it was the right time to mirror that success here in Western Australia. Plus, it’s no secret that Perth has some of the best beaches in Australia!
When recruiting within a new market or location, what do you think is most important when reaching out to new clients and candidates?
I think the important first step is investing time into learning what is happening in the market; what projects are happening, which areas are under-resourced etc. Knowing this puts you in a better position to provide a service that is relevant to your client's needs and help you build genuine relationships.
What’s your favourite part about recruiting within residential construction?
I think residential construction provides you with the opportunity to be seen as a specialist and a partner to companies in such a booming industry.
What motivates you to work hard?
My motivation comes from wanting to support candidates & clients as they navigate what can be sometimes a tricky and time-consuming process, and wanting to add value where others can’t.
What are your key goals for your first year in Perth?
I want to work towards Design & Build becoming the go-to Recruitment Partner within the Residential Construction space in Western Australia. On a personal level, my girlfriend and I have a couple of road trips booked to explore the far south of Western Australia.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
That hard work beats talent if talent doesn’t work hard.
When you’re not at work where are we most likely to find you?
In the back yard, standing over my smoker cooking kgs of Brisket & Beef Ribs.
What was the last thing you binged on Netflix?
Shamefully, I’ve never watched Friends, so I have been watching that the last few weeks and I have also just finished Line of Duty.
