For those that haven’t already, meet one of the dedicated members of our commercial construction team, Ed Stallwood. In addition to being a valued member of the Melbourne Design & Build team and the go-to Melbourne consultant for all things Health and Safety, Ed has just been promoted to senior consultant!

To celebrate this achievement, we spoke to Ed about his recent promotion, his goals for the rest of 2022 and the exciting opportunities he is currently working on. Find out what he had to say below:

Congratulations on your promotion! What does becoming a senior consultant mean for you?

I think being a senior consultant means taking a step into a leadership role in the team, where other team members can seek advice and run ideas by you. It's also a position where you can lead by example. For me personally, it feels like hard work paying off, and a step further into a long-term career in recruitment.

What made you decide to pursue a career in recruitment?

Before working in construction recruitment, I worked as a labourer in Australia and in business development in the UK, which both taught me skills that have aligned perfectly with construction recruitment. Pursuing a role in recruitment - especially for the construction industry- became the next logical step in my career.

What first drew you to Design & Build?

When I decided to leave the world of blue-collar recruitment, I had some key criteria for my next employer, these being; personal development, team culture and being rewarded for hard work. When I first interviewed with Design and Build, I realised that there was an excellent team already there, with leaders and consultants that got around each other. I saw that there was a clear pathway through to senior roles and the chance to develop my skills with the organisation's very own Training and development manager (Leanne) and learn from industry leaders in Blair & Andy.

What’s your favourite part of working in Recruitment?

A few things:

  • Working in a team that celebrates wins, no matter how big or small.

  • Being rewarded for the work you put into the job.

  • Working with some excellent clients and candidates, and seeing how well they fit into their new roles.

"Congratulations Ed Stallwood on your promotion to Senior Consultant. Since joining Design and Build in 2020 you have demonstrated incredible commitment to the HSE space. You’ve also shown yourself to be a great mentor, team player and advocate for the values that Design and Build have been built upon. We’re excited to see you continue the growth of our safety team and to expand into civil infrastructure with your own team later this year."

VIC State Manager, Design & Build

What’s been your favourite part of working at Design & Build to date?

We were lucky enough to attend a company-wide trip earlier this year to Hamilton Island where I was able to meet the entire D&B team across Australia. After being in and out of lockdown since starting with D&B it was great to finally meet the team in other states.

You’re currently working in the HSEQ Construction Space. What are you hoping for your clients and candidates for the year ahead?

I’m hoping that this year, we will see a return to normal for the construction industry after a couple of interesting years. I am hoping that my clients continue to create forward-thinking and collaborative safety teams and continually adopt new technologies within their projects. For my candidates, I look forward to seeing their growth and personal development in their roles.

Now that you’ve moved into a senior consultant role, what’s next? Do you have any key goals for the year ahead?

I have mostly been focusing on Health & Safety roles within commercial construction. I am looking forward to developing my client base into other sectors within construction, and hope to build my team within Design and Build with a Health & Safety Consultant

Do you have any exciting roles you’re currently working on?

I am currently working across several roles within the commercial space from HSEQ Manager down to OHS Officers on site – If you’re on the lookout for a new role, please get in touch!
