Off the back of yesterday's promotion news, we are excited to announce that another member of our Melbourne Design & Build office (this time within our engineering team) has been promoted to Senior Consultant! A massive congratulations to consultant Joe Thorpe, who is successfully carving out a space within the Victorian civil construction space and has developed a number of loyal relationships with candidates and clients alike, who will now repeatedly look to him when working on roles within civil construction. To celebrate this incredible achievement, we asked Joe a few questions surrounding his recent promotion; what does this promotion signify, what are his goals moving forward and the exciting new roles he is working on at the moment. See his answers below:
Congratulations again, Joe!
Congratulations on your promotion! What does becoming a senior consultant mean for you?
It’s great to have hard work recognised and being promoted to senior consultant is a good reflection of that. I think it highlights my knowledge within the market, but it also means that I can offer training and help other consultants at Design & Build.
What made you decide to pursue a career in recruitment?
Recruitment can often take some flack, but it’s a great career path. It’s a rollercoaster ride, with many ups and downs but the possibilities and rewards for your hard work are endless.
What first drew you to Design & Build?
I was initially referred to Design & Build by Ed, who joined a few months before me. Design & Build has a strong brand within the market, and with over 15 years of experience, I knew I was joining a reputable company. Design & Build also has a strong focus on training and development with an excellent coach in Leanne. Her support and guidance has massively helped me in gaining my promotion. To top it off, Design & Build offers a flexible working schedule means I can start or finish work early depending on what I have going on that day and head to the gym on my lunch break.
"Congratulations Joe Thorpe on your promotion to senior consultant. Your hard work and effort has been immense since joining Design and Build and the results have been clear to see. We’re looking forward to seeing you continue the development of the civil contracting space and have no doubts that you will achieve great things, whilst establishing a team around you."
Blair Hickman - Victorian State Manager, Design & Build
What’s your favourite part of working in Recruitment?
Building relationships with candidates and clients to achieve solid outcomes.
What’s been your favourite part of working at Design & Build to date?
I’d be lying if I didn’t say the company-wide trip to Hamilton Island, but there are many other favourite memories while working at D&B including numerous restaurant trips and a helicopter ride to the Yarra Valley!
You’re currently working in the Civil Construction/Engineering space. What are you hoping for your clients and candidates in these industries for the year ahead?
The Civil Construction/Engineering space is probably as busy as it’s ever been but that doesn’t come with its own challenges. Clients are facing a huge candidate shortage in Victoria at the moment, so an influx of candidates wouldn’t go astray...
Now that you’ve moved into a senior consultant role, what’s next? Do you have any key goals for the year ahead?
I’d love to continue to develop my career further, and the opportunity to build my own team within Design & Build. There’s a lot of opportunity within the civil space at the moment so it would be good to have a team underneath me to really increase our standing within the market.
Do you have any exciting roles you’re currently working on?
I’m currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to work regionally on a major infrastructure project in Kilmary, near Sale, where you’ll be working on a $20m package!
