Continuing on with the office celebrations, today a big congratulations are in order for one of our Sydney Commercial Construction consultants Denise Kostoulias who has been promoted to Team Leader! From making $100k in her first full quarter on the commercial construction desk to the extensive number of clients and candidates that sing her praises in reviews and testimonials – not to mention convincing a candidate to become a colleague, Denise has really established herself as a leader in the Commercial Construction market and a role-model in the D&B office.
On the heels of this exciting promotion, we found out what this team leader role will look like, Denise's goals for the rest of 2022 and the exciting new opportunities she'll be working on moving forward:

Congratulations on your promotion! What does becoming a Team Leader mean for you?
Becoming a Team Leader means a great deal to me as it recognises my development over the last three and a half years with Design & Build and is a continuation of my journey with the business. It’s an exciting opportunity where I will continue mentoring others, further develop my leadership skills and coach those beginning their careers in recruitment.
What made you decide to pursue a career in recruitment?
It sounds cliché, but I fell into it. After studying at Uni, I had no idea what I wanted to do with myself and started applying to jobs local to me. My first day in recruitment started with a Yellow Pages on my desk (if those still exist) and being told to make my way through the call list.
What first drew you to Design & Build?
I had a few friends that I worked with previously join D&B, which initially made me aware of the company. I then connected with Andy on LinkedIn and the rest was history. I hit it off with the team and I can honestly say joining was the best decision I’ve made in my career.
What’s your favourite part of working in Recruitment?
Whilst there are heaps of benefits working in recruitment (most surrounding fun days out and high achievers trips) my personal favourite part is how rewarding the job can be when you find someone a new role and reconnect in the future. It’s great looking back on all their achievements and it’s extremely rewarding helping others.
What’s been your proudest achievement of working at Design & Build?
I would have to say the milestones I’ve achieved over the last three and a half years with the business. In that time, I’ve progressed from a Consultant, to Senior Consultant, to Lead Consultant and now a Team Leader.

Adam Shaw - Team Lead - Commercial Construction & HSEQ
Can you tell us a little more about your new role and the team you’ll be growing?
As a Team Leader I will be leading, coaching and managing the commercial construction team alongside Adam (the Team Leader for Commercial Construction and HSEQ). Some of our growth plans include hiring a consultant to specialise in the delivery of regional Head Contractor roles, and a consultant to work with Tier 4 Commercial Builders.
Now that you’ve moved into a team leader role, what’s next? Do you have any key goals for the year ahead?
This year one of my key focuses will be developing my leadership skills and working through the organisation's growth plans. In conjunction with that, I’ll continue helping people find their dream jobs and assisting our clients with their staffing needs.
Do you have any exciting roles you’re currently working on?
I have several which is no surprise! The industry is very busy, and our clients are continuously being awarded new projects. I have some awesome opportunities for Project Managers, Project Engineers and Contracts Administrators to join some fantastic Tier 2 Head contractors delivering a variety of projects across Sydney. They are now looking for an experienced Contracts Administrator to join their team and work on a mixed-use project valued at $50M. The ideal candidate will have experience working on Residential or Commercial Office projects.
