Design & Build are very excited to introduce Andy Williamson to the team, who will be joining Design & Build as our WA State Manager! While we have always operated within the WA job market, after having established a physical office in Perth last year, acquiring an experienced and dedicated leader like Andy was the logical next step in order to ensure Design & Build can further capitalise on the great opportunities within WA and further cement our vision in becoming ‘Australia’s most trusted recruitment agency'.

Read below to learn more about Andy, his new role at Design & Build and his goals for the Perth office moving forward:

Welcome to Design & Build Andy! You’ve been appointed as our WA State Manager – what was it about the company and the role that made you want to work for Design & Build?

Design & Build has such a strong reputation in the eastern states and the opportunity to replicate that reputation and grow the team here in WA was something that really excited me. The passion, transparency and commitment shown by Andy McGregor through my initial interactions with the business really solidified that this was a journey I wanted to be a part of.

You’ve had extensive experience recruiting in both Australia and Scotland. What’s your favourite part about working in recruitment?

I love the fact that no day is ever the same in recruitment and every day you are learning something new, whether that be new information about a client, a candidate, market changes or even learning new things about your own processes. I'm also a strong believer in continuous improvement both as an individual and for the business overall.

This is an exciting role for Design & Build, as it’s establishing our first State Manger within WA. Why do you think WA is such an important base for the built environment industry?

I’m a bit biased but I believe WA is a state that is forever growing and developing, where all the industries directly or indirectly tie into one another. As the resources industry grows for example, the population is going to grow, businesses are going to invest more of their resources in to the WA market and this all ties into WA's built environment industry.

When recruiting within a new market or location, what do you think is most important when reaching out to new clients and candidates?

As our Design & Build team continue to grow and expand into new markets in WA, I think the most important thing is to ensure that we stick to our guiding principles and values that have brought D&B success on the east coast; ultimately doing the right thing by our clients and candidates.

"It’s with great pleasure that I welcome Andy to the team. As we approach one year since we opened our Perth office, I have been delighted with the progress our WA based team have made and am certain that with Andy’s appointment as WA State Manager, our service and team will continue to grow and flourish. Andy is well networked within our core verticals and offers a leadership style and approach which reflects our vision, mission, and values of building trust by doing the right thing. Welcome Andy!"

Andrew McGregor - Managing Director

What does building trust mean to you?

To me, building trust is providing transparency and respect to all parties involved in the recruitment process. Without these characteristics it is nearly impossible to build solid, longstanding, successful relationships with clients, candidates and colleagues.

What are your key goals moving forward, both in your new role as State Manager and for the Perth office overall?

Moving forward, my key goals will be to solidify and build on the fantastic work the Perth team has done here to date whilst diversifying ourselves in line with the Perth market. We also have big growth plans for the office over the next 12 months, so watch this space!

What’s your favourite thing about living and working in Perth?

The weather. Even now in winter, I am grateful for being able to get up in the morning and not have to scrape ice off the car before work!

When you’re not at work where are we most likely to find you?

Spending time with my family and watching the famous Glasgow Rangers!

What are you currently watching/listening to/reading?

I’m a bit late to the party but I’ve just started Peaky Blinders.
