My client is a well-respected, family orientated organisation, with a fantastic reputation in the market built up over the past 30 years. Due to continued success, and progressive growth, my client is seeking an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Lead to join their growing team. With projects varying from $1 - $30 Million, across multiple sectors, this is an exciting opportunity for a candidate seeking a long-term career move. The job role will be working closely with the EHS Manager and Engineering Director with a clear path to senior management for the right candidate. My client is extremely diverse in their skill set and projects the work across, including - Rail, Government, Heritage, Roads and Bridges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • The Environment & Sustainability Lead is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of the Company Integrated Management System (IMS), comprising the CSMS, PSMP, SSMP, EMS, © EMP, QM and PQP in accordance to: AS/NZ 4801:2001, ISO AS/NZS 14001:2004 and ISO AS/NZS 9001:2008 as well as all relevant HSEQ legislative and other requirements to ensure IMS requirements are established and maintained
  • Identify and support the delivery of initiatives to improve sustainability culture and sustainability outcomes for projects and the organisation
  • Work with internal stakeholders to define project and organisational sustainability and environmental goals and objectives
  • Work with key internal stakeholders and suppliers to develop and embed sustainability practices and initiatives within projects and the wider organisation
  • Develop and coordinate work programmes across the company to deliver on the sustainability and environmental objectives
  • Report on sustainability goals, objectives and initiatives
  • Prepare technical information required to support the identification and management of sustainability and environmental improvement initiatives
  • Prepare briefing material and training content for internal and external audiences on sustainability practices and expectations
  • Utilise tools through the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia (ISCA) to benchmark sustainability practices for projects and facilitate learning to embed in future project development and delivery
  • Collaborate with other key roles and programmes within the business and with suppliers to ensure an integrated approach to sustainability and environmental management
  • Develop networks with external professional, community groups, government and approval authorities and individuals to gain support and cooperation with environmental programs and sustainability initiatives.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Contract Administrator defining environmental / sustainability requirements for service providers (subcontractors / suppliers of materials, plant and equipment)
  • Other duties as required to support high quality, timely contributions to the development of the Sustainability Programme and environmental compliance initiatives
  • Participate / facilitate incident investigation and report on any corrective actions required and any changes to the IMS / workplace/ work tasks if required

To be considered for the role you will need:
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of environmental planning and/or sustainability programs
  • Experience applying the Infrastructure Sustainability Council of Australia bench-marking tools, or other similar bench-marking tools or processes
  • Knowledge of contemporary best practice approaches to sustainability in design and construction
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Act & Regulations, Legislation, Codes of Practices
  • Tertiary degree in sustainability, engineering, science, economics, social studies or related area
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the built environment in a role focused on sustainability, environment, economic, social management or similar areas
