Job Description

My client a world-class Mining Owner/Operator is looking for a Mine Planning Engineer to provide Mine Planning Advice advice to their organisation and assist in the establishment of their mining operations. 
This role will be residential based on a 5:2 roster out of the Townsville or Rockhampton office and will be responsible for providing professional level of engineering expertise to the business to deliver best fit engineering solutions and making technical contribution to planning, risk management and quality control.
  • Review of methodologies for overburden removal and handling and making recommendations for the optimum methodologies to be utilized
  • Design and optimisation of dumping systems to ensure maximum dump space is leveraged with an optimum haulage and progressive rehabilitation cost profile
  • Preparation of equipment specifications including any management information system requirements for the extraction methodology selected liaising with the relevant stakeholders and other open-cut mining, electrical, mechanical  and civil engineers
  • Prepare  mine layouts using input from geotechnical reports and findings to optimise pit layouts and overburden transport routes
  • To review and optimise the long term mine design and schedules (XPAC, Spry, Minescape) and thereafter provide medium and long term mine planning options which will ensure the resource is mined in the most cost effective way consistent with company and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that the long/medium-term mine plans are adapted to and amended to optimise safe working conditions within the mining operation
  • Assist in the preparation and development of the annual budget
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering
  • Over 5 years open cut mining engineering experience, with experience in terrace mining, drill and blast and truck shovel planning
  • High level of analytical ability
  • Greenfield coal mine development
  • Possess strong technical understanding of geotechnical bulk materials handling
  • In-depth knowledge of legislation and policies for Australian Coal Operations
  • Ease in usage of mine and scheduling design tools such as Minescape, Spry, XPAC, AutoCAD, Microsoft suites. Strong ability in excel, and Spry and VB scripting would be advantageous
  • Engineering skills and applied experience with open cut project development, development of mine safety management plans
