Job Description

Principal Traffic & Transport Engineer - Melbourne - SE Suburbs 

An opportunity with a leading employee owned business with 300+ staff across Australia. You will be joining a division that provides development planning advice, traffic and transport modelling, road and intersection functional designs and road safety advice to government departments, private developers and internal clients.


• Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent industry experience
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in the industry
• Understanding of the land development and infrastructure fields
• Well-developed analytical, research and conceptual skills
• Proven ability to work under broad direction
• Knowledge of the business and information systems relevant to this role
• Broad knowledge of traffic and transport engineering
• Understanding of planning and environmental legislation

Responsibilities include:

Business Development

• Represent the traffic and transport engineering business unit
• Develop relationships with existing key clients
• Build relationships with new and potential clients
• Prepare a business plan for the unit showing growth of the business in accordance with agreed goals
• Prepare fee submissions for projects
• Maintain a profitable base workload for the business unit

Management – Traffic Engineering

• Nurture the focus on service delivery and client responsiveness
• Ensure that the Traffic and Transport Engineering division achieves or exceeds business plan targets
• Lead the pursuit of excellence in Traffic and Transport Engineering
• Ensure that the technical standards for Traffic and Transport Engineering are established and maintained
• Seek innovative solutions to the technical and management issues associated with the services provided
• Manage recruitment of staff, allocation of duties, staff performance and staff development
• Ensure that staff exercise project and cost control techniques to deliver services profitably
• Actively encourage and assist staff to develop strong and efficient team work groups
• Support company and division decisions and direction

Project Delivery:

• Deliver on the required project scope within time and budget constraints
• Ensure that the goals and objectives of projects are accomplished
• Coordinate staffing as required for each phase of projects
• Review project deliverables for quality and effectiveness as required
• Identify and implement opportunities for improvement
• Provide reports to management on project performance
