THE KEY BARRIERS TO GENDER DIVERSITY WITHIN CONSTRUCTION, ENGINEERING AND PROPERTY
The purpose of this whitepaper is to firstly establish why, despite the benefits, a gender diverse workforce provides, female representation within the engineering, construction and property industries is still drastically low. And secondly, to determine what women within these industries value and look for in potential employers, in order to help organisations attract and retain female talent and ultimately, help in bridging the gender gap. While conducting our initial research, four recurring themes appeared in our female respondent’s feedback which act as a barrier in progressing these women forward within their careers.

To write these articles, Design & Build used and collated data from their extensive database of 55,000 candidates within the construction, rail, engineering, professional services and property industries. This information was augmented with survey data collected from over 200 respondents within Design & Build’s professional online network. Design & Build’s consultants also conducted some detailed interviews with key clients, candidates and partners within the Australian Construction, Property and Engineering sector, which are referenced and featured through-out this white paper.
