Location: Wetherill Park, Sydney
Industry: Advanced Manufacturing (Injection Moulding & Automation) Employment Type: Full-time, 24/7 manufacturing environment
About the Role
Our client, an established manufacturing operation based in Wetherill Park, is seeking an experienced Industrial Automation Technologist/Technician to join their team. This is a hands-on, technically diverse role supporting PLC-driven automation, industrial robotics, injection moulding machinery, and high-speed production equipment across a 24/7 site.
You'll be a key technical point of contact for production issues relating to equipment performance, product quality, and efficiency — working closely with Production, Maintenance, and Quality teams to minimise downtime and maximise OEE.
This role blends fault-finding, preventative maintenance, die setting, process optimisation, and continuous improvement, with genuine exposure to automation upgrades and manufacturing improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
Automation & Technical Maintenance
- Troubleshoot and maintain industrial automation and production equipment across a 24/7 environment
- Service, repair, and set up injection moulding machines, industrial robots, IML systems, and auxiliary equipment
- Fault-find and replace mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components
- Integrate industrial robots into material handling, inspection, and packaging applications, including safety interlock verification
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, equipment upgrades, and calibrations
- Complete major equipment overhauls and support complex machine, processing, and die-setting issues
- Act as a key technical contact for production issues affecting output, quality, reliability, and efficiency
- Perform die, insert, and colour changes, including machine start-ups and shutdowns
- Set, adjust, and optimise robotics, machine software, and production process parameters
- Troubleshoot production faults, including IML and high-speed packaging equipment
- Maintain target cycle times while ensuring finished products meet specification
- Investigate recurring and new faults using structured root-cause analysis; implement corrective and preventative actions
- Analyse downtime, rejects, defects, and waste to identify improvement opportunities
- Support automation design, programming, commissioning, and equipment upgrades
- Maintain accurate records of downtime, rejects, NCRs, maintenance activities, and corrective actions
- Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure equipment and processes meet product, customer, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with site quality systems, HACCP, and applicable food safety requirements
- Verify new or modified automation systems before production handover
- Work in line with WHS legislation, site safety procedures, and permit requirements
- Identify, report, and rectify hazards and near misses
- Coordinate with third-party service technicians when required
- Support training and technical upskilling of production and maintenance personnel
- Communicate and escalate technical issues across shifts to maintain operational continuity
- Proven experience in industrial automation, robotics, and/or injection moulding within a manufacturing environment
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fault-finding skills
- Experience with PLC-driven systems and industrial robot integration
- Die-setting experience highly regarded
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment
- Strong root-cause analysis and continuous improvement mindset
- Food safety/HACCP exposure an advantage
- Ability to train and support colleagues, and communicate effectively across shifts
- Stable, full-time opportunity with genuine exposure to modern automation technology
- Hands-on role combining automation, robotics, and process engineering — not a narrow, single-skill position
- Real input into equipment upgrades and manufacturing improvement projects
- Work within an established, well-resourced manufacturing operation
