Location: Adelaide (open for interstate FIFO on weekly basis)
Duration: 5-6 month initially, with extension likely and possibility for perm
Project: Tender phase for $multi-billion infrastructure project
Company: Tier 1 contractor
About the opportunity:
A major government infrastructure programme is just about to enter the RFP phase and we are seeking a senior Project Manager(Steel package) to define the construction strategy, procurement approach and constructability methodology for all steelworks during the bid phase.
As the Project Manager you will work with design consultants and JV construction leadership to embed constructability into design documentation before it is issued for construction.
If you have a background in leading the design, fabrication and erection of steel packages on major infrastructure, building, industrial or O&G projects - this would be an excellent opportunity.
Key responsibilities of the Project Manager
- Develop and own the structural steel construction execution plan – erection sequence, assembly methodology and crane strategy across all building packages.
- Review structural steel design documentation during bid, identifying constructability issues, access conflicts and programme risks before design is finalised.
- Define the modularisation strategy, maximising off-site fabrication and pre-assembly to reduce crane lifts, minimise work-at-height and compress programme.
- Develop the temporary works strategy for steel erection, including bracing, propping and access requirements.
- Coordinate the structural steel erection sequence with civil bulk earthworks, slabs, underground services and mechanical equipment installation.
- Identify and pre-qualify specialist steel fabricators capable of delivering to high-quality assurance standards.
- Develop and maintain a structural steel procurement schedule mapped against the construction programme.
- Establish fabrication quality requirements including AS/NZS 1554 welding standards, NDT and QA frameworks.
- Support the commercial team in preparing structural steel subcontractor and fabrication packages for tender.
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Structural) or Construction Management – highly desirable.
- 15 years’ experience in structural steel project management on Tier 1 industrial, resources or heavy civil projects.
- Proven experience managing steel procurement, fabrication quality and erection on large-scale projects with significant tonnages.
- Experience in ECI or D&C delivery models with demonstrated ability to influence design pre-construction.
- Strong knowledge of AS 4100 (Steel Structures) and AS/NZS 1554 (Welding).
- Track record developing erection methodologies, temporary works and modularisation plans for large-span industrial steel structures.
- Experience on heavy industrial, marine-adjacent or similarly complex site environments strongly preferred.
