About the Company:

My client is a boutique Architectural and Interior Design studio based in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, working on projects across Australia. They specialise in retail and commercial environments, offering end-to-end services—from strategic planning right through to project delivery. Their design philosophy blends practicality with creativity, earning them a loyal client base and long-standing partnerships with iconic brands.
Their current portfolio features collaborations with one of Australia’s leading department stores, international luxury brands, high-end showrooms, and some of the country’s most recognisable retailers.

About the Role:
My client is looking for a talented and experienced Interior Designer, Interior Architect, or Architect to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This opportunity is ideal for a mid-level professional with strong project management and documentation experience—particularly within the retail and commercial sectors.
In this role, the successful candidate will manage projects from concept through to delivery, liaise with clients and consultants, and ensure all designs meet Australian building codes and regulations. The variety of work spans from custom fixture design to full-scale, high-end retail fit-outs—offering plenty of creative and technical challenges.
The ideal candidate will bring energy, precision, strong communication skills, and a collaborative mindset. A sense of humour and love for design will go a long way in this vibrant studio culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior team members on the design and delivery of projects
  • Help define project scope, clarify briefs, and contribute to fee proposals
  • Develop and present concept sketches and diagrams in 2D and 3D
  • Ensure all designs comply with Australian Standards and BCA/NCC
  • Prepare high-quality, detailed documentation in a timely manner
  • Manage client relationships and coordinate project work from concept to completion
  • Liaise with consultants and contractors across all project phases
  • Handle permit applications—from Development through to Occupancy
  • Lead projects, manage schedules and budgets, and ensure design intent is maintained
  • Attend site meetings, surveys, and inspections across various Australian locations
  • Assist with general project administration
Skills & Experience Required:
  • Degree in Design / Interior Design / Interior Architecture / Architecture (Australian-recognised)
  • 5–8 years of local experience, particularly in the retail and/or commercial sectors
  • Strong understanding of the BCA/NCC and Australian Standards
  • Proven project management and coordination skills
  • High proficiency in Revit for documentation
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) is a bonus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and within a team
Why This Role?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-respected studio known for thoughtful, elegant design and a supportive team culture. The role offers variety, ownership, and the chance to work with major national and global clients. For a design professional ready to take the next step in their career, this could be the perfect fit.
