About the Role:
Seeking an experienced and capable Senior Accountant to take ownership of the full finance function within a busy, project-driven business operating in the civil and infrastructure sector.
This is a newly created role, offering the opportunity to step into a key position where you will oversee day-to-day financial operations, reporting, payroll, and project accounting, while also supporting and guiding two accounts team members.
You will play a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting, while contributing to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full finance function including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance
- Perform bank and account reconciliations, credit card reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and end-of-financial-year financial reports
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management across projects
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure compliance with relevant legislation
- Administer project financials including cost tracking and project accounting support
- Prepare Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other compliance reporting requirements
- Ensure accuracy of financial data and maintain strong internal controls
- Lead and support a small accounts team, providing guidance and oversight
- Deliver ad hoc financial analysis and reporting as required
- Qualified accountant (CA/CPA preferred) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience
- Strong background in financial accounting and reporting within the Australian market
- Experience preparing financial statements in a commercial or project-based environment
- Demonstrated ability in budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
- Strong knowledge of payroll systems and accounting processes
- Experience with BAS preparation and month-end reporting
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
- High attention to detail with strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Experience in construction, civil, transport, or project-based industries highly regarded
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel
