Project Manager – Major Water Infrastructure (Client-Side)
My client is seeking an experienced and driven Project Manager
to lead the end-to-end delivery of significant water and wastewater infrastructure projects. This is a client-side consultancy role, responsible for the full project lifecycle from planning and procurement through to delivery and commissioning of complex capital works.
You will work collaboratively with internal teams, consultants, contractors, government authorities, and community stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with environmental, technical, commercial, and community expectations.
Key Responsibilities
As Project Manager, you will oversee the successful delivery of complex and strategic projects, ensuring customer-focused outcomes are achieved on time and within budget. You will:
- Manage water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept through to completion and handover.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams and oversee complex work packages involving multiple stakeholders, high technical risk, or significant capital value.
- Deliver projects in line with scope, schedule, budget, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Provide guidance to delivery partners to ensure project objectives are achieved throughout all phases.
- Develop and maintain project management plans, risk registers, budgets, timelines, governance documentation, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
- Liaise with relevant authorities to secure planning and environmental approvals.
- Align project outcomes with strategic and customer-focused objectives.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives within the delivery group.
- Uphold safety and compliance standards across all stages of delivery.
- Ensure adherence to internal governance processes to meet project and program targets.
- Proactively identify risks and implement controls to mitigate project delivery issues.
- Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Project Management.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in infrastructure delivery, with 1–2 years in a lead role on a major project.
- Demonstrated success delivering large-scale water and wastewater capital works (valued between $30m–$70m).
- Experience working within or alongside government agencies, water utilities, or public sector bodies.
- Strong understanding of contract management, project governance, and risk frameworks.
- Ability to manage and influence in complex stakeholder environments.
- Solid knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and industry codes (e.g. Australian Standards, WSUD, Environmental Regulations).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
