Workplace flexibility

The Role workplace flexibility plays in retaining female talent within the Construction, Engineering and Property Industry

Flexible work arrangements usually encompass changes to the patterns, hours and location of work and can and should vary depending on the needs of the individual – something the built environment industry is still trying to grapple with.

In our research, when asking our female database what they value most when looking for a new role within their industry, 75% listed workplace flexibility. Despite this, 45.83% of respondents also claimed that the biggest challenge they have faced while working in the industry is trying to establish work-life balance, which they attributed to a lack of flexible working arrangements. This indicates that while it is a highly desirable commodity for female employees, workplace flexibility is hard to access within the built environment industry.
